Canada's leading woman high-tech entrepreneur

The call for nominations for Sara Kirke Award for Canada's Leading Woman High Tech Entrepreneur has been announced by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA). The award is part of CATA's new Advancing Women in Technology (WIT) Forum which is designed to help women in technology and high growth companies advance in their careers and succeed as entrepreneurs.

The award is presented to the woman who has shown the most outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership -- leadership that has significantly expanded the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industry. Kirke is considered by many to be North America's first entrepreneur. She arrived in Newfoundland in 1638 and managed affairs at the Pool Plantation and became one of the most successful merchants on the English Shore -- and was almost certainly North America's first and foremost woman entrepreneur.

The winner of this year's Sarah Kirke Award will be announced at CATA's Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday, June 21st, 2005, at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. For more information, contact Tracey Long at tlong@cata.ca
